Abstract

Road improvements are planned for a 2.5-mile stretch of Carpenter Road west of Tifton Road. In order to comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, a cultural resources survey was completed by Southwind Archaeological Enterprises in February, 2002. This survey included subsurface testing, surface inspection and a survey of potential historic structures. No evidence of archaeological sites was observed during the survey. One historic structure was recorded, but this residence has been extensively altered to the point that it has lost much of its original fabric. In the opinion of the project staff, it is not significant or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. A finding of No Adverse Effect is recommended for the proposed road corridor APE.
