Abstract

The project proposes to relocate Conley Road south on new location to align with C.W. Grant Parkway. This project also proposes to relocate SR 3/Old Dixie Road to the east approximately 600 feet and construct a new connection from existing C.W. Grant Parkway at College Street north to Old Dixie Highway opposite existing Conley Road. A temporary detour connector has recently been added to the project and will be constructed to carry traffic that currently travels north and south bound on Old Dixie Highway around the construction of the proposed new Old Dixie Highway bridge and the proposed new Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge. The detour would have a maximum right-of-way of 120 feet and is located partially on College Street and partially on new location. An archeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. By agreement, since no archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential effect, no signed concurrence form the State Historic Preservation Officer is required. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
