Abstract

The proposed project consists of the emergency replacement of a existing culvert in southwestern Cherokee County, Georgia (Figure 1). The culvert was damaged during severe rainfall in September 2009. The culvert is located at the Kellogg Creek Road crossing over Owl Creek. Cherokee County had previously developed construction plans for the replacement of the Kellogg Creek Road culvert, and these plans were utilized for the emergency replacement. The previous 8-foot by 14-foot elliptical culvert was replaced with an 8-foot by 6-foot box culvert with a length of 54 feet. Additional right-of-way measuring 0 feet by 70 feet on the north side of Kellogg Creek Road was acquired and 20 feet by 70 feet of right-of-way was acquired on the south side of the road. In addition, paved shoulders were constructed in the area of the culvert replacement adjacent to the existing roadway, which utilizes unpaved rural shoulders. The length of the repairs along Kellogg Creek Road was 450 feet and width of the right-of-way was increased from 50 feet to 90 feet along the repaired length.
