Abstract

This report documents the result of a cultural resource survey of the proposed Pine Hill Loop Transmission Line corridor, Decatur County, Georgia. The total length of the investigated corridor is approximately 1.83 miles, and the right-of-way varies from 75 to 100 feet wide. The literature and records search conducted for this project revealed that no archaeological sites had been previously recorded within a considerable distance around the study tract. Further, no standing structures of any age were present within less than 200 feet of the corridor. The cultural resource survey identified a single, multicomponent archaeological site. The components present included a scatter of modern historic artifacts and a sparse Archaic occupation. The historic component is less than 50 years old, and the Archaic occupation consisted of an ephemeral hunting or extractive camp that had been destroyed by deep plowing. The single identified site was not recommended for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
