This project was an emergency archaeological salvage survey situation, which was brought on by the construction of Ebenezer Elementary School by Effingham County.

The 11 counties of the Upper Flint River watershed are densely developed, yet resources still exist. Transportation is highly developed and more than a dozen bridges cross the river in this section.

Archaeological investigation at the Gould-Bethel cemetery in Chatham County, Georgia was provided by the LAMAR Institute, Savannah, Georgia. This work included topographic mapping of the site, digital photography, and Ground Penetrating Radar survey of a sample of the site.

This report details the findings of a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey that was performed by archaeologists with The LAMAR Institute and the Coastal Heritage Society (CHS) on April 18 and 19, 2006. This fieldwork was also supplemented by historical and archival research on the study area.
