A brief, three day reconnaissance of archaeological sites in an area near the headwaters of Barfield Creek, Taylor County, Georgia, was conducted in March of 1989. Primary attention was paid to an area in Taylor County east of Barfield Creek and south of U. S. Highway 80.

The artifactual material recovered from the Candler County Landfill property area proved to be very meager. Although all of the material recovered was definitely aboriginal, only one component can definitely be identified. This is based on the one Savannah Check Stamped sherd.

The archaeological reconnaissance of the Upper Flint River Basin was conducted over a 12 week period with several other chance visits, located in Middle Georgia. A total of 76 sites were catalogued in Upson, Pike, Talbot, Taylor, and Meriwether counties.
