This brief reconnaissance resulted in the identification of five archaeological sites. There are likely to be additional sites present within the project area.

From July 23 through July 27, 1990, Phase II archaeological testing of the Brigham's Landing Site (WGC1670) on the Savannah River in Burke County, Georgia was conducted by Archaeological Research Services of West Georgia College.

Phase III archaeological excavation of the Glass Site (WGC1583) in the watershed of a tributary of Gum Swamp Creek in Dodge County, Georgia was conducted From July 11 through August 1, 1989. Twelve squares, each measuring two meters on a side were excavated at the site.

Archaeological testing was conducted at eight prehistoric sites within the boundaries of a proposed state park on the northwest outskirts of the town of Young Harris in Towns County, Georgia. Seven of the eight sites were on the floodplain and terraces on the west side of Brasstown Creek.

A Phase II archaeological survey was conducted of an access road and Visitor's Center at Pickett's Mill Civil War Battlefield, a state operated historic site in Georgia.

Topographic mapping, metal detector testing, and a test pit were employed in a Phase II archaeological investigation of an approximately 2.5 acre tract of land proposed for exchange at the north end of Skiddy Island State Park.

A metal detector survey and limited excavation in the vicinity of a fieldstone chimney at Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site in Jones County, Georgia confirmed the presence of Plantation Period midden deposits in a small area immediately surrounding the chimney.

Under a March 17, 1988 contract between the Fisheries Management Section of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Archaeological Research Services of West Georgia College conducted a Phase II archaeological investigation of WGC1588 and three acres of land owned by Floyd County on the Coosa

From June 13 through June 17, 1988; Dan Simpkins and David Davis of the Office of the State Archaeologist conducted archaeological testing in the project area for a proposed Interpretive Center along with its associated parking lot and access road and two picnic shelters.
