Most of the trenching operations to date have been on unpaved sand roads. The New River Road was the only asphalt paved road involved. Work here was primarily confined to the side of the road and care was taken not to damage the existing pavement. On all except Old River Road, fill was evident.

This is the second monthly report of the archaeological evidence found during the period of 20 November 1977 to, and including, 16 December 1977. This work is in conjunction with the Waterworks Improvements Project for the city of Darien, Georgia.

Most of the pipe placement activities during this period were conducted on the inland residential streets (see Figure 1). Work progress was slow; due to inclement weather conditions. Again, Fred Cook's assistance was used in the identification of all prehistoric ceramic types.

Three archaeological sites, including a human burial, were identified during this reporting period. Discovery of the human burial necessitated the first formal archaeological delay incurred during this project.

This paper discusses the results of the analysis of artifacts from 49 nineteenth and twentieth century graves from the Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Chamblee, Georgia.

A mitigation plan has been assembled and approved for the 9Lu(DOT)l excavation. According to this mitigation plan, the first step will be to stake the DOT right-of-way to the west of the bridge. All excavation will be restricted to that right-of-way.

This report presents the results of investigation of 56 nineteenth and twentieth century graves within the Nancy Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, which is located near Atlanta, Georgia. Three categories of graves were explored.
