Report Abstracts

An archeological survey was conducted for the purpose of assessing the impact of the proposed construction of a water storage tank. The construction will be undertaken through a grant from the Economic Development Administration, U. S. Department of Commerce.

This report is a reassessment study of the initial University of Georgia archaeological survey of the Plant Scherer site, especially pertaining to the recommendations of that survey as they exist or as they have been modified by construction conditions on the site.

The following report summarizes a cultural resource survey of Compartment 187, Unit 3.C-187-U-3 is located approximately 1 mile due south of Penfield, Georgia, and 2 miles east of SR 15. The U.S.G.S. Quadrangle map used was Penfield, Georgia 1972.

A cultural resource survey was conducted along a proposed extension of the Wildcat Creek Road (FS 329) in the Skeenah Creek Valley near Friendship Church in Eastern Fannin County, Georgia. This road is in compartment 622 of the Toccoa Ranger District, Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests.

The following report summarizes the Cultural Resource survey on approximately 0.7 mile of National Forest Service Road No. 271 which is scheduled to be built in late 1980 in Lumpkin County, north of Dahlonega, Georgia.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the nature and extent of an archaic site on a tract of land selected for exchange. The site was discovered by a University of Georgia archeological team under contract with the Forest Service during the period August 8 to September 5, 1975.

The present report covers the investigation of a series of possible rock shelter sites along the top of Dug Gap Mountain, north of Dug Gap Road outside Dalton, Georgia. These sites were located on Forest Service land being considered for exchange (Figure 1).

The present report summarizes a cultural resource survey of the Paschal Boarding House, Scull Shoals Historic Area. Scull Shoals is located approximately one mile due north of the intersection of Georgia Highway 15 and the Oconee River and east of the Oconee River at less than .1 of a mile.

The Corps of Engineers, Department of the Army, is planning to build a power and flood control dam on the Upper Savannah River at a site 7 miles east of Hartwell, Georgia.
