Research Design: Excavations at 9Gel53 were originally designed to extensively investigate the site and all its components.

To determine the current state of knowledge for the area, the project director will consult the state site files, will undertake an extensive review of the archaeological literature, and will interview local residents knowledgeable about the prehistory of the region.

The area in question had been disturbed by construction activities prior to the survey. No artifacts or evidences of prehistoric or historic occupation were found in the disturbed area.

The proposed project entails the discovery and preliminary evaluation of historic and prehistoric sites within a 45-acre portion of the Millen National Fish Hatchery, located in Jenkins County, Georgia. This facility is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The Potts' Tract site, 9-Mu-103, is located in southeast Murray County, Georgia, approximately 11 miles due south of Carters Dam.

The Dyar site consists of a large platform mound and associated village located in the floodplain of the Oconee River just west of the city of Greensboro, Georgia. Specifically, the site is located at Universal Transverse Mercator grid coordinates N3720024 E288888.

9Ge130 is located on a very narrow terrace immediately adjacent to the Oconee River. When originally discovered this site was thought to have a Late Archaic component since several Stallings Island fiber-tempered sherds were found in 2 posthole tests spaced 200 meters apart.
