Since past research has been sporadic and undertaken with inexperienced personnel, many sections of the study area have not been adequately surveyed for cultural resources.

Authorization for this project was received May 18, 1977 and work commenced June 4, 1977, immediately upon completion of the Flint River Outfall Sewer, Site "E", authorized on the same date.

We began preliminary reconnaissance to determine accessability for archeological survey and intensive reconnaissance for Step II, Engineering Grant. We commenced survey at the Norcross oxidation pond near Mithcell Road, immediately south of Norcross.

The Archeological Survey of Cobb County is a unit of the county government under the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, and is located in the County Engineer's office.

This section of the report will deal with the findings and some of the results of archeological survey and investigation carried out from July 1968 to May 1971.

On April 11 to 14, 1977, an on-site archeological survey was conducted along the proposed right-of-way of a portion of the City of Atlanta - Three Rivers Project, in the vicinity of Brown's Mill Park.

A preliminary archaeological reconnaissance, carried out for the City of Atlanta under P.O 17657, was performed on the Southside Park area in December, 1975. The reconnaissance identified a number of scattered rifle pits dating to 1864.

During the last week of May, 1974, the Survey received authorization from Cobb County (dated April 15, 1974, but delayed in signing) to proceed with Contract 115 A, 115 B, Morgan Falls Interceptor Sewer.
