Report Abstracts

The proposed project is to be the widening of the existing two-lane bridge over the Central of Georgia Railroad in Whitesburg on S.R. 16 (U.S. 27 Alt.). The existing bridge is 105' long and 32' wide with a roadway width of 24'.

Georgia DOT # BRZLB-179(6) is an in-place bridge replacement project at Fleming Br. Road over Raccoon Branch in Liberty County, District 5. Because the project is in place, no new areas will be impacted. Only those areas which have been disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected.

The purpose of this project is to replace Bridge 049-5037-0 carrying County Road (CR) 52, Ralph Davis Road over Long Branch Tributary in Charlton County (Figure 1). The existing Right-of-Way (ROW) measures approximately 80 feet from centerline. The bridge is 70 feet long.

Georgia DOT Project # BRZLB-065(3) is an in-place bridge replacement project at Suwanoochee Creek and County Road S568 in Clinch County, District 4. Because the project is in place, no new areas will be impacted.

The above project in Laurens County is an in-place bridge replacement on County Road 530 over Hunger-Hardship Creek. Because the project is in-place no new areas will be impacted and only areas which have disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected.

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, the project has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

Georgia DOT Project # BRO-0087(2) is an in-place bridge replacement project at Mill Road at Big Slough Creek in Decatur county, District 4. Because the project is in place, no new areas will be impacted. Only those areas which have been disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected.

The survey entailed examination of relevant survey reports, project plans, maps, and site files, and a pedestrian (walk­through) survey of the entire project, occasionally complemented by periodic placement of subsurface tests where needed.

The above projects in Brooks County are in-place bridge replacements. BRS-2719(1) is located on S.R. 33 over Gum and Rainey Creeks. The latter project is on S.R. 33 over Altine Creek.

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. has completed a Phase I Archaeological Survey of proposed improvements to Mott's Green Plaza, located in Columbus (Muscogee County), Georgia.
