Report Abstracts

This report presents an interim summary of three seasons of archaeological excavations at the Little River site (9Mg46) in Morgan County, Georgia. The focus of the work was on the Mississippian period chiefly compound, dominated by the 1-meter-high Mound A.

This report presents the results of excavations during the summer of 2001 at the Little River site (9Mg46) in Morgan County, Georgia.

Extensive remains of aboriginal dwelling sites and artificial mounds have been known on the Georgia and South Carolina coasts for a good many years. Through the work of several investigators, especially Clarence B. Moore in the coastal area, and William H.

The Chattahoochee Valley, one of the very important areas of Southeastern archaeology, has come only slowly to the attention of Southeastern specialists.

During the past few years the Southeast has given considerable thought and support to various archaeological excavations of the Works Progress Administration. In Savannah attention has been focused on the explorations at Irene Mound.

Archaeological excavations on the Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina coasts have been carried on intermittently ever since the Civil War. Probably the first investigator was Jeffries Wyman (Wyman, 1875), who dug into the shell mounds along the St. Johns River in Florida. C. C.

Site 9 Pm 260, a small multicomponent rockshelter, is located in the extreme southern portion of the Wallace reservoir on the western side of the Oconee River 2.2 km upstream from the dam (Figure _). Universal Transverse Mercator grid coordinates for the site are N 3693336 E 297744.
