The current, structurally deficient bridge would be replaced by a new bridge at the existing location with traffic maintained during construction on an on-site detour to the east of the existing structure.

The structurally deficient SR 81 bridge over the Alcovy River would be replaced by a new bridge 22 m (72 ft) to the south, with new approaches east and west of the bridge. Traffic would be maintained on the existing structure until the new one is operational.
