Report Abstracts

In August 2000, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Sargent Road and McGinnis Ferry Road intersection improvements in Fulton County, Georgia. This survey was conducted for ARCADIS, Geraghty, & Miller, Inc.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) wishes to replace three bridges on State Route 32 in northern Brantley County (Figure 1).

On May 18, 2000 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) conducted a Phase I intensive cultural resources survey for the proposed replacement of the US 19/SR 3 bridge over Potato Creek in Upson County, Georgia.

In September of 2000, a 4.1 km (2.6 mi) stretch of Wrightsboro Road on the outskirts of Augusta, Georgia, was archeologically surveyed. The work was conducted for the Georgia Department of Transportation and Richmond County, through the firm of Post, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan, Inc.

This report discusses the archival research, archaeological fieldwork and our conclusions on a hypothesized Civil War gun battery belonging to the fortifications around Camp Lawton (9JE1), a Confederate prisoner of war camp and now a state park.

The Georgia Department of Transportation wishes to replace an aging, existing one-lane bridge that carries Harmony Church Road over Pond Fork (a. k. a. East Fork) with a larger, twolaned bridge. It will be replaced in-place, and no temporary, adjacent crossing will be needed.

On October 11, 2000 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) conducted a Phase I archeological survey for the proposed replacement of the Pobiddy Road bridge over Flint River in Talbot and Upson Counties, Georgia.

In 1998, Brockington and Associates, Inc., and the Georgia Department of Transportation conducted a archaeological survey of a 16 km (10 mile) long corridor along US 441 /SR 15 extending north from the Tallulah River to the city of Clayton, Georgia.

On September 13, 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted a Phase I archeological survey of proposed improvements to the intersection of MacLand and Old Lost Mountain Roads in Cobb County, Georgia.
