On behalf of Atkins North America (Atkins) and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), New South Associates (NSA) conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the proposed intersection improvements at State Road (SR) 17 and Blue Jay Road in Effingham County, Georgia.

Georgia DOT Project # N-AD-20-1(3) is an in-place bridge replacement project at St. Mary’s street bridge at Tidal Creek in Camden County. Because the project is in-place, no new areas will be impacted. Only those areas which have been disturbed by previous bridge construction will be affected.

On October 10, 2016, Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) conducted a supplemental ground penetrating radar (GPR) investigation in order to further investigate buried historic streetcar resources potentially affected by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc.’s (ABI’s) proposed Southside Trail (Figure 1).

The proposed project consists of the transfer of two surplus property parcels currently owned by GDOT. An interested member of the public has contacted GDOT’s Right-Of-Way office requesting to purchase these two surplus land parcels from GDOT.
