Report Abstracts

At the request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a FEMA Archaeologist conducted a Phase 1 Archaeological Survey of 11 acres in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia (Figure 1).

Work was commenced at eight o’clock Monday morning, September 13, 1965, in conjuction with archaeological excavations and exploratory research on the superstructure of the Owens-Thomas House on Oglethorpe Square in Savannah, Georgia.

Project TSAP-1007(1) proposes the construction of the SR 1007 connector road between SR 335 and SR 15/US 441 in the city of Nicholson. The project is on new location and would provide direct access from SR 335 to Benton Elementary School.

In 2009 Greene County, Georgia proposed to construct a new bridge on the Cold Springs Road on National Forest land in Compartment 191. Surveys were conducted of four acres and a single prehistoric site was recorded (9GE3522). After the initial field work was completed, the project was halted.

The proposed project would upgrade and reconstruct the interchanges at I-85 and SR 211in Barrow County, I-85 and SR 53, I-85 and 82 Spur, and 1-85 and SR 98 in Jackson County. All proposed work would be done within existing right-of-way.

The proposed project corridor for the Fort Valley State College Access Road, GDOT/GEPA Project TSAP-894(1), Peach County, consists of an access road on new location for Fort Valley State College between SR 49 and US 341/SR 7.

The Oconee Ranger District (Oconee RD) of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests has proposed to conduct prescribed burning in Compartment 138 in Jasper County.

Attached to t his communication are copies of the field reports from Survey staff members concerning the rock features atSite#18.

This addendum report presents the results of additional Phase I cultural resources investigations completed as part of the proposed Elba Express Company, L.L.C. 's 1 (EEC) Modification Project (formerly known as Elba Coldwater Compressor Station).

Two potentially eligible sites, 9Bn33 and 9Bn36, were tested by the Southeast Archeological Center in the Spring of 2000 for National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility.
