The proposed project consists of left and right shoulder pavement of S.R. 124 in Jackson County from approximately 143 m (470 ft) north of S.R. 53 to S.R. 11 for a distance of 15.8 km (9.8 mi). The proposed shoulder pavement varies from 0.6 m (2 ft) to 1. 2 m (4 ft).

From June 15-17, 2009, staff archaeologists from the Georgia Department of Transportation (Goon conducted remote sensing investigations at archaeological site 9CH1205 in Chatham County, Georgia. These investigations included survey with ground penetrating radar (GPR) and magnetic gradiometer.
