Site 9Ca(DOT)3, referred to here as the Watkinsville Battlefield is located in Clarke County in an area roughly bounded to the North by the South Athens Bypass, US 441 to the East, and the Old Watkinsville road and McNutt Creek on the South and West.

The original project proposed the relocation of the east bound off ramp terminal to intersect Hawthorn Avenue approximately 400 feet west of Prince Avenue in order to remove one leg of the existing five point intersection.

The proposed project will re e existing traffic sii n. s stem in the city of Athens. This will include 25 intersections along SR 10/Broad Street, Clayton Street, Washington Street, Hancock Street, and Dougherty Street.

Project NH-051-1(23) would widen Winterville Road/CR 470 and add exit and entrance ramps from Winterville Road to the Athens Bypass/SR 100 Loop.

The proposed project was surveyed by Brockington & Associates, Inc. in November of 1992 for the GDOT. At that time, the project was known as EDS-72(26).

The proposed project would consist of the leveling and resurfacing of SR 10 in Clarke County. Also included in the proposed project would be the paving of the existing shoulders on SR 10 in the city of Athens.

The proposed project would consist of reconstruction of median crossovers along SR 8/U.S. 29 at various locations in Clarke and Madison Counties. The project begins at the CR 203/Athena Road intersection and proceeds northerly to CR 422/Old SR 106 intersection in Madison County.

I, the Principal Investigator: Lynn Marie Pietak PhD., do hereby certify that the Area of Potential Effect (as described on page 1 of this form) for GDOT Project STP-0005-00(922) has been thoroughly surveyed for archaeological resources and that no such resources were located or identified.

On March 24, 2003, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., completed an archeological survey of seven intersection improvement projects in Athens/Clarke County, Georgia. The intersections are located along State Road (SR) 10 in the western portion of the county (Figure 1).

The proposed project would begin approximately 1,190 feet west of the bridge and end approximately 1,510 feet east of the bridge. The total project length along SR 52 would be approximately 2,700 feet (0.51 mile).
