Report Abstracts

On July 29, 2021, Terracon Consultants, Inc. conducted a cultural resource assessment survey the Plainview Fire Department Public Safety Communication Tower tract, located in Jackson County, Georgia (Figure 1.1).

Archaeological salvage investigations at 9CK(DOT)7 led to the excavation and recovery of numerous features and artifacts representing principally the Early Woodland Kellogg Phase in north Georgia prehistory.

The area to be flooded by the Allatoona Dam was examined for archaeological remains by the Smithsonian Institution in February, 12-15, 1946, and during the period November 12, 1946, to April 1, 1947.

Site 9Cy(DOT)2 represents a low density Early Archaic surface lithic scatter. The site is located in Bluffton, Georgia, east of US 27/SR 1 and south of CR 130 in an agricultural field.

Site 9Cy(DOT)3 represents a low density Late Archaic and possibly Early Woodland surface lithic scatter. The site is located in Bluffton, Georgia, east of US 27/SR 1 and south of CR 130 in an agricultural field approximately 30 meters from site 9Cy(DOT)2.

Site 9Cy(DOT)4 is represented by the remains of an historic house site. The site is located in Bluffton, Georgia, east of US 27/SR 1 near the southern city limits in a heavily overgrown area. The site is partially within the required right-of-way for GDOT project EDS-27(148), Clay County.

Site 9Cy(DOT)5 represents a low density Late Paleoindian surface lithic scatter. The site is located in Bluffton, Georgia, east of US 27/SR 1 and south of CR 130 in an agricultural field.

Site 9CY(DOT)10 was located on 29 April 1996 during an archaeological survey for Georgia Department of Transportation project EDS-27(159) in Randolph and Clay Counties.
