This report has presented the results of a cultural resource survey of several planned borrow areas and haul roads for bridge relocations along three Georgia State Roads, map references 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4.

The initial study of the project encompassed 30.5 m (100 ft) on either side of the existing bridge, and 305 m (1000 ft) on the approaches. The new area that needed to be surveyed is on the west side of SR 155.

This is a brief archeological assessment of the above referenced project. As described by GDOT concept report, the project is minor, consisting of adding a stop and go turn signal with turn lanes at the intersection.

The results of the survey indicate that no significant cultural resources exist at road crossings 1-3 and 1-4 and cultural resource clearance can be advised for both of these project areas.

This report documents the oral interviews with Mr. Marion Godard of Griffin, Georgia, one of the members of the estate from which the Steele Road Substation site is to be purchased, and also presents an architectural assessment of the tenant house.

6592 Morgan, John R. Preliminary Research on Cultural Resources Observed During Anthony Shoals Site Evaluation Trip

On May 13 I represented the Historic Preservation Section in a field evaluation of the Anthony Shoals nomination. During a half-day tour of the property three cultural resources were observed. The following descriptions of these resources are made for the benefit of the field evaluation team.

The area to be effected by the proposed bridge construction was surveyed on foot. The survey revealed that there are four large stone piers 10 ft. long, 12 ft. high, at the southwest end of the bridge.

The area to be effected by the proposed bridge construction was surveyed on foot. The survey did not reveal any material of historical or prehistorical interest. No further investigations are recommended.
