Report Abstracts

This report describes a survey of five islands in the Savannah River which will be drowned by the construction of the Richard B.. Russell Reservoir. Thirteen sites occupied by prehistoric Indians were found.

The present report covers a program of more intensive archeological investigations at 9EB76 and 9EB348, including systematic surface collection, machine stripping of the plow zone on sample units, and hand excavation as required by the presence of features and/or artifact concentrations.

In August through October of 1980, New World Research, Inc., conducted Phase I investigations at four sites (9EB92, 9EB207, 9EB208, 9EB219) known collectively as the Beaverdam Group.

The results of the survey indicate that one potentially significant prehistoric site lies in the proposed borrow area to R-2. This site will require further mitigation planning and possible excavation.

New South Associates conducted Phase I archaeological survey on January 26, 1999 of an approximately one mile gas pipeline corridor and 200 by 200 feet work station in Walton County, Georgia. The project area is located north of the town of Madison.

The following report contains the findings and conclusions of our survey. The results of the survey indicate that no significant cultural resources are located in those areas designated map reference 2-3, 2-4 and 2-5.

Archeological survey was conducted by the Institute of Archeology

During August 2002, Alexander Archaeological Consultants conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Trenton Recreational Park in Dade County, Georgia. The project Area of Potential Effect investigated consists of approximately 171 acres.

Several Federal laws and regulations give the Marine Corps the authority and the responsibility to manage the historic resources on lands under its jurisdiction.

This report has presented the results of a cultural resource survey of several planned borrow areas and haul roads for bridge relocations along three Georgia State Roads, map references 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4.
