Report Abstracts

A new section of Forest Service Road Number 59B, Habersham County, is scheduled for construction in 1977. The proposed route begins near the Flint House in Mt. Airy and extends 2.02 miles southeast to its intersection with existing Forest Service Road 59B.

This report presents the results of background research and archaeological survey of the Hodnett Lake tract near Clarkesville in Habersham County, Georgia. Background research did not indicate any historic use of the project tract, and no archaeological sites were found.

The limited archaeological investigation of the Elisha Winn House property was authorized by W. Lane Greene, Project Architect, in a letter dated November 5, 1980.

In 1998, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological survey of a 16 km (10 mile) long corridor along US 441 /SR 15 extending north from the Tallulah River to the city of Clayton, Georgia.

The Central Savannah River Area of Georgia boasts a rich archaeological heritage. Although much has been done to record for future generations that which has gone before us during the several millenia in which man has been in this area, vast knowledge lies still buried in the soil.

The proposed C.D. Milam sand plant operation site is located on the left (south) floodplain (T-O) of the Chattahoochee River in an area just east of Rogers Bridge Road in Gwinnett County near river mile 337 (Figure 1).

Construction of parking lots in two developing recreation areas has been planned. The Burrells Ford lot will encompass approximately 4,800 square feet; the lot at Overflow Road will be 480 square feet.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the nature and extent of three sites located on a tract of land under consideration for exchange.

Persimmon Creek Bridge is scheduled for expansion during FY 1977. The bridge, part of FS 32, is a cement structure spanning 20-foot wide Persimmon Creek. The author examined the bridge and the adjacent area which is subject to alteration.
