Report Abstracts

On October 20 and 21, 1982, the author conducted a cultural resource survey on 400 acres covering the 2.4 mile proposed Allison Ridge Road, and the adjoining land of a proposed timber sale. The survey area is located in White County, Georgia.

The survey of these roads on the southwestern side of Taylor Ridge found no sites on the rights-of-way, but two19th-20th Century house sites were nearby. Neither one had standing structures.

On December 13, 1982, the author conducted a cultural resource survey over a total of 185 acres which included the 2.3-mile length of the proposed Hunter Knob Road (FS 724) and Stand Nos. 1 and 2 of a proposed timber sale.

Following a 1977 cultural resource survey of Tract A-3196 on the Armuchee Ranger District, a prehistoric lithic scatter, called Silver Hill Site F (Ga #9Cg8) was recommended for further testing to determine eligibility for nomination to the National Register.

On December 13, 14 and 16, 1982, the author conducted cultural resource surveys on a total of 489 acres in Fannin County, Georgia.

This cultural resources survey conducted in July and December 1982, covered the 281-acre Chenocetah Mountain tract of National Forest land southeast of Cornelia, GA, offered for exchange.

On October 26, 1982, the author conducted a cultural resource survey on the proposed Upper Tibbs Trail (FS 78-E) in the Cohutta Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest in Murray County, Georgia.

A Cultural Resource Survey was conducted on a 0.9-acre parcel proposed for a land exchange with John and Martha Shook in Chattooga County, Georgia, on May 17, 1982. An additional 0.9-acre area adjacent to was also examined at the same time.

A 100-acre tract of Oconee National Forest in southern Jasper County was surveyed in March 1978 by K.A. Schneider for possible exchange. No significant sites were found on this previously farmed lower Piedmont tract, and clearance for the exchange was recommended.

On July 12-13, 1982, a cultural resource survey was conducted on the proposed Herring Exchange Tract in Towns County, Georgia. The field reconnaissance including subsurface testing on this 362-acre tract located one early 20th century house site, one prehistoric site and one large rock pile.
