The preferred alternative for Project STPO0-0004-00(915) and STPO0-019-1(15) in Bartow & Floyd Counties consists of widening State Route (SR) 140 from two to four lanes. The existing right-of-way (ROW) along SR 140 ranges from 80 to 120 feet.

The proposed project is located in Floyd County, Georgia, approximately 9 miles north of the city limits of Rome, Georgia. The project would consist of an installation of a traffic signal and a ninety degree realignment of SR 140/Turkey Mountain Road.

The proposed project would begin at the 1-75 bridge over SR 155 and would end approximately 600 feet north of the 1-75 southbound off ramp to SR 138 (Stockbridge Hwy) just at the Henry/Clayton County line, for a total length of 12.24 miles.

During the heavy rain event in September of 2009, extensive flooding caused damage to the existing culverts that run under Due West Road at Possum Creek in Paulding County, Georgia. Specifically, the three existing 60" corrugated metal pipe.
