Report Abstracts

This report presents the results of archaeological testing by Southern Research Historical Preservation Consultants, Inc. for the Georgia Department of Transportation's proposed widening of U.S. 80 I SR 19 in Laurens County.

This report describes test excavations at five sites (9Ce894, 9Ce873, 9Ce909, 9Ce910, and 9Ce898} located in Chattahoochee County Georgia, in the B-4 compartment at Ft. Benning.

The proposed project would widen and reconstruct US 341N/SR 11/Progess Avenue in Hawkinsville. The project begins near the US 341N and US 341S split and extends southeast to near SR 230; however, no improvements would be made between Commerce Street and SR 230.

The proposed project would widen US 41/SR 3/North Wall Street in Calhoun. The proposed project begins at the intersection of US 41/SR 3/North Wall Street and SR 156/Red Bud Road and ends at the intersection of CR 492/Moss Parkway and US 41/SR 3/where it ties into an existing five lane section.

From September 16 to September 27, 2002, Southern Research Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc., of Ellerslie, Georgia conducted archival research and archaeological excavations within two areas of the Jekyll Island Club Historic District (9GN224), a multi-component historic district on Jekyll

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended), project STP-0000-00(839) was surveyed with respect to archeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

This report describes Phase I archaeological survey of 84 acres for the proposed Oxbow Marina in Muscogee County, Georgia. During the survey, two previously recorded sites and two new sites were identified.

As a part of the negative declaration update for this portion of the Moultrie Bypass, an archaeological assessment was made. The entire project is in an urbanized area with the exception of the land adjacent to Kapilco Creek.

This report addendum provides additional data regarding the archaeological survey of the proposed Oxbow Marina project in Muscogee County, Georgia. The first survey of the proposed marina was conducted in April of 1999 and reported by archaeologist Sarah Cowie of Southern Research.
