GAl Consultants, Inc. (GAl), conducted an archaeological field investigation of three derelict vessels in February and March, 1991, under subcontract to Gulf Engineering, for the Savannah District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

This executive summary concerns the results of an archival search and cultural resource reconnaissance for the Casey-Kayton Canal System. The objective of this study was to apply National Register Criteria to the Casey Canal, a property which will be adversely impacted by the project.

The project would widen and reconstruct SR 3/US 19 from County Road to approximately 300 feet north of CR 8/Atwater Road in Thomaston, Georgia.

This project involves the replacement Bridge 195-5043-0 that carries Old Wildcat Bridge Road over Masons Mill Creek, located approximately 6.5 miles northeast of Danielsville (Attachment 1). The existing bridge, built in 1966, is no longer structurally sufficient and needs to be replaced.

This document is to summarize the preliminary findin9 of an archaeological and engineering study of the Confederate ironclad, C.S.S. Georaia (Figure 1). The results are based on historical, field and laboratory data gathered during this Phase I study.
