Report Abstracts

An archaeological survey was conducted on 11.1 acres of the proposed Towne Center Village Complex on Barrett Parkway, Cobb County, Georgia. The survey area consisted of that portion of tract within the 100 year flood plain of Laura Lake Creek.

Archeological testing was undertaken, at the site of Fort Argyle (9Bry28) , one of the earliest frontier forts constructed in Georgia (1733). The primary goal of the project was to confirm the site's location through archeological and historical methods.

During August of 1986, Robert S. Webb conducted a. cultural resource survey of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed Mills Road substation site and transmission line loop corridor. The proposed project is in Burke County, Georgia, near Waynesboro.

The Ezekiel Harries House Archaeology Project has been planned and carried out by Dr. Gary Hurd, (medical College of Georgia), Mr. Christopher P.H. Murphy, (Augusta College) and Ms. Jean Shelton, (Paine College), between spring, 1982 and the present.

The Center for Low Country Studies was contacted about conducting test excavations at the site of a proposed signpost advertising the Great Savannah Exposition at Battlefield Park, Savannah, Georgia.

A cultural resources survey was conducted by the author on 60 acres of National Forest land proposed for use by the U.S. Army as a landfill for the Army's Ranger training center at Camp Merrill, in northern Lumpkin County Georgia.

A comprehensive cultural resource survey of the McIntosh Reserve was performed in 1980 (Mistovich, Wills & Oakley). Of the twenty prehistoric and historic sites located at that time, two were discovered in the vicinity of the proposed lake site.

An archaeological survey was conducted of the proposed recreational park in the southern part of Cherokee County. No sites were found within the survey area which was a highly-eroded upland west of Woodstock.

During March and April of 1986, Robert S. Webb conducted a reconnaissance level cultural resource survey of 2332 acres in three compartments (178, 179 and 187) of the Oconee National Forest in Greene County, Georgia.
