Report Abstracts

The McIntosh County Industrial Authority proposes to develop a commercial/recreational complex on the Darien, Georgia waterfront. The initial phase of this development consists of construction of a 281.47-foot bulkhead along the river bank east of the U.S. 17 bridge (Register-Moody, 1984).

Archaeological investigations were undertaken at the Sapelo Island Lighthouse and its adjacent Oil House on December 14 and 15, 1996 (Figures 1 & 2).

An archaeological survey of portions of the Darien sewer system project was conducted by Water and Air Research, Inc. (WAR) in order to locate potentially significant cultural resources and define historically archaeologically sensitive areas prior to construction.

This report documents the results of the cultural resources survey of a proposed shoreline stabilization project on Black Island, McIntosh County, Georgia.
