Under a continuing services contract with the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, Panamerican Consultants, Inc. (PCI) conducted a series of Phase II archaeological investigations at 24 sites within the reservation.

A cultural resource survey was performed on Fort Benning for the proposed Child Support Center for 198 children. No cultural resources were located as a result of the 2 ha (5 ac) survey. We recommend that a determination of "No Effect" to cultural resources be made for the project.

The King Site, named for the landowner, is located on the Coosa River in the western part of Floyd County, Georgia. This site has long been known to residents of Floyd County, and artifacts from the site are illustrated in the local history written by George Battey, Jr. in 1922 (1922:76).

The proposed project involves the widening and upgrading of a U.S. Forest Service service road within the Chattahoochee National Forest in Fannin County (Figure 1). This is being done to provide better access to a residential area on Blue Ridge Lake.
