Report Abstracts

This report constitutes the first monthly progress report under contractTZ600-M93-04, and includes the last two weeks of field work in the month of February.

On Monday, April 7, 1975, an archaeological and historical survey was conducted on a 30.51 acre plot of land located on the west side of Norton Road in Rockdale County. This is the proposed site for a Quadriplex type housing development.

Interagency Archeological Services-Atlanta is soliciting proposals for a Historical Investigation pertaining to historic period settlement along the Savannah River in the areas to be affected by the construction of the Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake, Georgia and South Carolina.

The proposed site of the North Stadium, Muscogee County School District, Muscogee County, Georgia has been examined by the Columbus Museum of Arts and Sciences, Inc. for the presence of cultural resources.

The University of Georgia Department of Anthropology as contacted when a crew bulldozing a road on the marine Corps Supply Center, Albany, Georgia, uncovered a prehistoric Indian site. Don and Betty Smith visited the site August 25-27, 1973.

Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. (CRA), was contracted by MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., to conduct archaeological testing at Site 9HT10 in Warner Robins, Georgia.

The Sweetwater Creek Rock Shelter is located in Sweetwater Creek State Park, Douglas County, Georgia. It overlooks Sweetwater Creek. The site was excavated by Ray Crook, Georgia State University, in 1986.

Terranext undertook a reconnaissance level survey of the Tates Creek Site for Barran Telecom. Barran Telecom is seeking to build a 200-foot (76.2 m) monopole tower located within a fenced 100-x-100 ft (30.5-x-30.5 m) compound.

A staff member in the Office of the State Archaeologist has made an on-site inspection of the property on which the proposed city park in Woodland, Georgia is to be located. No indication of an archaeological site was indicated by this inspection.

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests are preparing a first-time thinning stewardship project in five compartments on the Oconee Ranger District in Putnam County, mostly south of Murder Creek.
