Heritage resources surveys and inventories have been completed for 1,039 acres on the Toccoa and Cohutta Ranger Districts, Fannin, Union, Gilmer, and Murray Counties, Georgia. These field surveys were completed during the summer of 1996 by Rebecca E.

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed North Brown Road relocation on May 16, 1995. The project corridor is approximately 1.3 miles in length with 0.8 miles of new alignment and 0.5 miles of existing road widening. The right-of-way is 125 feet wide.

This report is a compilation of two cultural resource surveys plus previously unrecorded sites that were reported during Fiscal Year 1996.

Southern Research conducted a five mile survey of a proposed bypass corridor around McRae, Georgia in Telfair County and a small portion of western Wheeler County for the Georgia Department of Transportation.

On October 24 and 25, 1995, New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 0.75 mile of new alignment, road widening and a bridge replacement for Mitchell Bridge Road. The study corridor crosses from Whitfield into Murray County, Georgia.

An intensive cultural resources survey was carried out for the Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed North Americus to Buckeye 115 kV transmission line in Macon and Sumter Counties, Georgia.

New South Associates conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of three proposed intersection improvements to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive in the City of Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.

In November 1996, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of the proposed Parker Road improvement and extension corridor in Rockdale County, Georgia.

The survey for the proposed widening of Parker Road was conducted on September 16 and 20, 1994 by Garrow & Associates, Inc. The intention of this survey was to identify cultural resources within the primary impact zone and the Area of Potential Effect (APE) for construction.
